Asbestos and Lead

Asbestos, Lead-Based Paint & Hazardous Material Services

The Blackledge Group’s experience in the asbestos, lead-based paint, and hazardous materials consulting field is unsurpassed. For over 20 years, our professionals have provided Hazardous Materials Survey and AHERA surveys for industrial, commercial, residential, educational, and Department of Defense (DoD) facilities as part of renovation and demolition operations. We have also provided asbestos, lead-based paint and hazardous materials surveying and cost estimating services to clients during the due diligence phase prior to a property transaction.

Buildings that are to be demolished or renovated, especially older ones, may contain hazardous or regulated building materials that require proper handling, disposal, and abatement. Even recently constructed buildings can contain asbestos-containing building materials.

The Blackledge Group provides experienced, certified asbestos, lead, and hazardous material specialists that provide sampling and assessment services associated with these regulated materials. Our objective is to identify their presence early in a project in order to assess their potential abatement costs and evaluate scheduling impacts.

Asbestos Consulting Services

Our asbestos consulting services are performed by a staff of trained asbestos consultants, EPA AHERA certified building inspectors, contractor supervisors, management planners, designers, project managers, and industrial hygienists who have extensive experience providing cost-effective asbestos inspection and survey services to private and public sector clients. We also maintain a strong network of NVLAP accredited laboratories. Our reports are prepared in an easy-to-read, straightforward manner to facilitate accurate estimates for asbestos abatement.

Lead-Based Paint

The Blackledge Group provides lead-based paint inspections, risk assessments, and monitoring programs in order to maintain compliance with EPA and OSHA standards. Inspections and assessments are conducted to determine the existence of lead-based paint and potential health hazards associated with exposures to lead in residential, housing, commercial and industrial settings. We also provide OSHA Standard (29CFR 1926.62) Lead Exposure in Construction related services. Lead-based paint services include:

  • Lead-based paint risk assessments.
  • Lead-based paint inspections and surveys.
  • Lead-based paint sampling and abatement plans.
  • Abatement oversight.
  • Engineering and work practice controls.
  • Worker exposure assessments and monitoring for lead.
  • Worksite monitoring and reporting.

Hazardous and Regulated Materials

Hazardous Materials Surveys identify asbestos, lead-based paint, PCBs, as well as other materials that are typically handled differently than normal construction or demolition debris during the renovation or demolition operations.

The Blackledge Group professionals have performed Hazardous Materials Surveys at DoD installation across the United States, as well as in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Our cross-trained inspectors are highly competent in assessing facilities for asbestos-containing materials, lead-based and lead-containing substances, PCBs, mercury-containing equipment, biological hazards, industry-specific sources of chemicals and heavy metals, and Universal Wastes.

Our survey reports are written in a straightforward manner to allow design engineers to easily incorporate survey results into their design specifications. We are well-versed in UFC and other design standards which address hazardous materials.
